Fixing medicare: What are the impediments to health reform

André Picard

André Picard is the health columnist at The Globe and Mail and the author of five books, including the current bestseller Matters of Life and Death: Public Health Issues in Canada.
He is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University and has received honorary degrees from six Canadian universities, including the University of Toronto.

 

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Summarize the pros and cons of Canada’s medicare system through an examination its history.
  2. Discuss the financial, political and administrative barriers to reforming Canada’s health system.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the evolving social contract between government, patients and health professionals. 
  4. Reflect on the necessary systemic changes to meet evolving societal needs through dialogue with representatives of the pharmacy community.
