General Internal Medicine: Welcome

The Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) at the University of Toronto is central to the clinical care of complex patients at all of the major teaching hospitals affiliated with the University of Toronto. Our division has more than 60 full-time faculty members who are national and international leaders in education, research, and quality improvement. We offer an outstanding and highly competitive training program in general internal medicine.

The educational program is a two-year curriculum that reflects the learning objectives of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The sessions include didactic lectures, high fidelity simulation based training and interactive project work. The sessions are led by faculty experts and renowned teachers. In addition, Toronto has a large patient population that provides exposure to unique and complex patients as well as opportunities to work in new and innovative models of care, creating a unique training environment. Graduates from this program are superior clinicians who excel in the management of complex patients with undifferentiated conditions. Our mandate is to develop leaders in GIM, both in the academic and community setting. At the University of Toronto, we provide the clinical experiences, the faculty expertise and the mentorship to develop these future leaders.
