As one of the largest medical schools in North America, we train upwards of 550 postgraduates across 20 sub-specialty divisions each year. One third of Canada’s, and one half of Ontario’s, internal medicine specialists are trained at the University of Toronto. The breadth and variety of learning experiences—from the highly specialized tertiary care in the intensive care units to healthcare facilities and clinics that have deep, long-standing roots in their surrounding communities—allow graduates of the department great versatility in addressing challenges facing society’s health and welfare.

Each year we accept more than 150 trainees into our PGY-1 entry programs.

We are leaders in advancing the scholarship of continuing professional development (CPD) locally, nationally and internationally. Faculty members hold key leadership positions and are frequently called upon to lead innovative CPD activities.
Education scholarship is an umbrella term which can encompass both research and innovation in health professions education.
