Speaker: Dr Keith A. Josephs Photo of Dr Keith A. Josephs
Professor of Neurology
Professor of Neuroscience
Department of Neurology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA.

Topic: Primary Progressive Apraxia of Speech: types, neuroimaging signatures & pathogenetics

Learning Objectives:

  • To be able to distinguish between aphasia, dysarthria and apraxia of speech
  • To be able to recognize the prosodic and phonetic subtypes of apraxia of speech
  • To understand relationships between apraxia of speech, Parkinson’s-plus syndromes and neuropathology

The speaker will introduce the clinical syndrome of primary progressive apraxia of speech (PPAOS), distinguish it from primary progressive aphasia (PPA) and introduce two subtypes of PPAOS. He will highlight neuroimaging characteristics of  PPAOS and its subtypes, and show how PPAOS subtypes evolve over time into different Parkinson-plus syndromes that are associated with different neuropathological diagnoses.
